Knoxville Woman Pleads Guilty to Defrauding U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration
KNOXVILLE—Martha Ann Kaczmarczyk, 62, ofKnoxville, Tennessee, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to chargesstemming from a scheme to fraudulently obtain disability payments from the U.S.Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration.Sentencing has been set for January 16, 2013, before U.S. District Court JudgeThomas W. Phillips.
As part of the scheme, Kaczmarczykassisted her husband in obtaining disability payments based on a false claim ofcombat-related posttraumatic stress fisorder. Additionally, Kaczmarczykdefrauded the Social Security Administration by falsely claiming that she wasdisabled due to a back injury. Kaczmarczyk faces a maximum term of 10 years inprison, along with forfeiture and restitution. Her husband, CharlesKaczmarczyk, previously pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on December 12,2012.
The investigation was a joint effortbetween the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of VeteransAffairs-Office of Inspector General, Social Security Administration-Office ofInspector General, and the U.S. Air Force.
