How many friends do you have who are not cops?  How do you get along with your kids?  How are you and the wife getting along?  What do you do besides police work?  What do you do outside of work without doing it without other cops?  When was the last time you went to church?

Many police over time lose all their non-police friends.  They don't understand police work and rather than explain it, most officers just dump their non-police friends.  Many cops have difficulty doing shift work and weekends as well as long hours.  As a result they have relationship difficulties with their families.

Officers often alienate themselves from society.  They drift away from all their friends.  They drift away from their kids and their wife.  They leave the church.  Eventually they only have their on duty relationships.  When they retire they have no family, no friends, and no church.  Often, retired officers will contemplate suicide, and sometimes even kill themselves.  We need to do a better job of preventing that; that's what the SGT Says.
