Thanksgiving is the day with the largest number of traffic fatalities that happen on a single day.  That is because so many people are out driving to grandmothers house and not thinking about where they are going or what they are doing.  There are also a lot of people going home from grandmothers house who had too much to drink and are driving while intoxicated.

This is a good day to field a large number of traffic officers to keep traffic moving in a safe and orderly manner.  Give tickets to everyone who commits a moving violation.  It will remind them that they need to pay attention to their driving on holidays just like they do the rest of the time.

Special attention needs to be paid to those driving under the influence.  A DUI checkpoint would probably gather up a good number of suspects.  There should also be weeks of public service announcements on local TV and radio as well as billboards to make the public aware of the dangers of driving on Thanksgiving.  Holidays can be fun, but they can also be deadly; that's what the SGT Says.
