Scientists are working on a new bullet proof material.  It simply absorbs the bullets when they hit.  The material is clear, like a windshield.  This is the type of product that police need to be developed to protect officers in the field and at the station.  Every police patrol car should be enclosed at least the front and front sides should be bullet proof.

Officers should be safe inside their patrol cars.  They should be able to sit in their patrol cars, on patrol or on a traffic stop, and be protected from firearms assault.  In the past, bullet proof protection has been too heavy, too opaque and too expensive to be built into every patrol car.

I hope this new material will be inexpensive enough that it can be used in all patrol cars.  Patrol cars should also remain the same shape and size year after year so that ancillary equipment can be handed down from car to car, reducing the amortized price.  New technology is needed to prevent officer deaths, a bullet proof patrol car is only one item; that's what the SGT Says.
