Recently some states have legalized marijuana use for recreation.  I think this is a terrible idea, particularly for law enforcement.  Is your agency going to let you smoke marijuana for recreational use when you are off duty?  How will your agency treat prior arrests for marijuana now that it's legal?

Will your agency allow officers to deal marijuana as a part time job?  How about smoking marijuana for recreation all the time, even when at work?  If it's legal, what are the restrictions?  Will non-sworn police employees be able to use marijuana?  Certainly a dispatcher does not drive or carry a gun?  How about police records clerks?

When applicants come in from other states and say they smoke marijuana all the time because it's legal will you hire them if they say they will stop when they move to your state?  How about when your officers go on vacation, can they vacation out of state and use marijuana and then come home and still have a job?  How about if you are on the border and maybe they live out of state but work in your state?  A lot of questions and no good answers; that's what the SGT Says.
