What have you done that was not related to police work this past week?  Police often become so focused on their work that they leave time for little else.  Work graveyard shift, testify in court during the day, then go home and go to sleep in time to get up for work.

On days off work an extra shift to pay for kids, school, a jet ski or other bills, or simply because it's mandatory overtime.  Go to a department Christmas party, have a bar-b-que and only invite other cops.  Spend time off at cop bars, uniform shops, gun stores and pistol ranges.

Eventually the job becomes you whole life.  Then when you retire you have nothing.  Your kids are estranged, your wife has left you and you have no other hobbies.  Go to church this Sunday.  Take the kids to a movie and the wife out to dinner.  Remember you are a cop 24/7 but you are a person for three score and ten; that's what the SGT Says.
